LNER advises against travel on Wednesday and Thursday following red heat warning

Following the issue of a rare red weather warning, LNER is advising customers travelling throughout this week to check before they travel and strongly recommends customers booked to travel on Wednesday 24 and Thursday 25 June 2026 do not travel.

Some restrictions on tickets have already been lifted for customers travelling on the East Coast Main Line up until Friday (26 June) to help make their journeys more comfortable.

For safety reasons, Network Rail may need to introduce speed restrictions in certain parts of the country on Wednesday and Thursday (24 and 25 June), increasing journey times and resulting in LNER reducing the number of services across both days. Customers are strongly encouraged to travel on alternative, cooler dates where a more regular service is expected to operate.

Customers with tickets for Wednesday and Thursday can use them to travel on LNER services on Friday 26 June 2026 at no extra cost or claim a full refund from their point of purchase if they prefer not to travel.

Any customers travelling on an alternative service are strongly encouraged to make a new seat reservation, for free, via the LNER website or app.

Throughout this week, all customers are urged to check their journeys before travelling, as the hot weather will lead to short notice changes to train services.
